Welcome to Warft Simmerdeis – your idyllic countryside retreat in North Friesland. Our historic thatched cottage, built on a traditional dwelling mound dating back to 1796, seamlessly combines the charm of bygone times with modern, stylish comfort. Located in the scenic rural outskirts between Oldenswort and Witzwort, you will stay surrounded by lush fields, green pastures, and iconic historic Haubarg barns right in the heart of pure nature.

Thanks to the mature, towering trees on our estate, numerous bird species have made this sanctuary their home. Recently spotted species on our grounds include:

Songbirds & Garden Birds: Spotted flycatchers, wrens, chiffchaffs, European goldfinches, common chaffinches, blue tits, great tits, blackbirds, song thrushes, Eurasian treecreepers, icterine warblers, and blackcaps.
Corvids & Pigeons: Common wood pigeons, carrion crows, and Eurasian jackdaws.
Woodland & Wetland Birds: Common cuckoos, great spotted woodpeckers, ring-necked pheasants, and wild mallards.

A vibrant kingfisher is also frequently spotted near the Graft on the back garden property. High up in the tree canopies, a long-eared owl currently resides, and at dusk, bats can be seen dancing through the evening sky. It is the ultimate destination to escape city life, unwind, and recharge.

Our Insider Tip: Friedrichstadt is one of our absolute favorite destinations nearby. It offers a wonderful Dutch flair, complete with authentic step-gabled architecture and scenic canals.

Brasserie at Herrenhaus Hoyerswort (Oldenswort): Located right in Oldenswort inside the stunning Hoyerswort Manor (built in 1594). It is a fantastic spot for exceptional French cuisine, premium coffee, and homemade cakes. In the summer, you can dine outdoors and soak in the historic estate’s magnificent atmosphere. Website
Roter Haubarg (Witzwort): Just an 8-minute drive away in the neighboring village. This historic 17th-century farmstead features an on-site museum, a restaurant, a cozy café, and an outdoor terrace. Website
Zweierlei – Fisch & Thairestaurant (Friedrichstadt): Situated directly on the historic marketplace, this is our favorite spot for authentic Thai cuisine. The head chef previously cooked for the Restaurant Ursprung at the Hotel Aquarium. Website
Hotel Aquarium / Bar Ursprung (Friedrichstadt): Located at Mittelburgwall 4. We highly recommend stopping by their well-stocked bar for an excellent Gin & Tonic. In the summer, their sun terrace right by the canal is beautiful – you can even dock your boat directly at the restaurant. Website
Salt & Silver (Sankt Peter-Ording): A must-visit stilt house restaurant built directly on the beach. It offers almost surreal, panoramic ocean views, outstanding cuisine, and a highly charming service team. Website
Künstlercafé (Husum): Our favorite place to stop after a shopping spree in town. They serve delicious homemade cakes and perfectly poured Aperol Spritzes. Website
Das Wiesendanger (Husum): If you love fresh fish, this spot at the inland harbor (Binnenhafen) is an absolute treat. The entire Husum harbor area is lined with excellent dining options to suit every culinary taste. Website

Arrival & Transportation Directions

By Plane

If you are arriving by air, the nearest international airport is Hamburg Airport (HAM), which is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Oldenswort. Numerous car rental agencies are available directly at the airport terminal. Or you take the train to North Frisia to Husum or Friedrichstadt and order a taxi.

By Train & Taxi

For those traveling by train, we recommend booking your ticket to Friedrichstadt station. From there, it is a quick 9-minute taxi ride to Warft Simmerdeis. Alternatively, the closest local train stop is Witzwort.

By Car

From the South: Drive north from Hamburg via Heide, staying straight on the B5 highway.
The Main Route: Take the newly upgraded exit toward Oldenswort (Rothenspieker). Follow this road directly through the village of Oldenswort. Warft Simmerdeis will appear on your right-hand side.
Alternative Route (If you miss the exit): Take the next available left turn onto the street named Siethwende. Turn left again and follow the winding course of the road. Once you pass the green town sign for “Osterende” on your right, Warft Simmerdeis is the very next house on your left-hand side.

Apartment 1 / Attic

The apartment is on the 1st floor – a staircase from the main entrance leads directly to the attic. Dining area and kitchen are divded by a room divider in barn optics from the sleeping area.

The high quality kitchen is fully equipped with dish washer and many kitchen tools you want to have for a longer stay.

The shower room is decorated in British style with underfloor heating, victorian floor tiles, armatures and ceramics – equipped by Traditional Bathroom from the U.K.

Hairdryer, bed linen & sheets, shampoo, shower gel, soap, conditioner and bodylotion are of course available as well.

The bedroom has a 160x200cm queen size bed and a Smart-TV. Costfree fast WIFI is of course available as well.

Directly in front of the apartment is the gallery and “living room” of your apartment, where you will find a piano and a fine selection of books to read in your spare time.

Apartment 2 / Ground Floor

The dog friendly apartment is located on the ground floor and consists out of a master bedroom a Lounge area with pull out sofa and smart TV, dining area with cast iron fireplace, separate kitchen and a beautiful bathroom.

The high quality kitchen with dishwasher and many kitchen tools is fully equipped for longer stays. You can reach the terrace and fenced garden from your kitchen and have this garden area just to yourself during your stay and you will enjoy it that you can relax while your dog is running around in your part of the garden.

The shower room is equipped in British style with underfloor heating, victorian floor tiles, ceramics and armatures from the U.K.

Bed linen and sheets, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bodylotion and soap are of course available as well.

The master bedroom has a 180 x 200 cm king size bed. There is costfree fast WI-FI via fiber optic cable.

I designed the bedroom for couples who want to have space around them while on vacation. But in the lounge, right next to the master bedroom is a cozy pull out sofa where theoretically two more people could sleep.

We (Stefanie and Johannes Sebelin) live right here at Warft Simmerdeis. Whenever we are on-site, we are your direct points of contact. We deeply value our own privacy, and we respect yours in exactly the same way. Since the distances to Husum and Friedrichstadt are short, we can also be there quickly if anything needs to be arranged or discussed.

At Warft Simmerdeis, we live together with our older, friendly dogs, Kona (a Pointer) and Viko (an Australian Shepherd). Our house pasture is home to a small flock of Ouessant sheep, who are always curious to see if someone might have a treat for them. We also have a vibrant flock of chickens accompanied by a handsome rooster.

Simmerdeis an der Gracht (Friedrichstadt)

The Warft Simmerdeis Group also includes “Simmerdeis an der Gracht” in Friedrichstadt. This beautiful estate features two canal houses located directly on the water with scenic canal views, alongside two stylish loft apartments boasting a large ground-floor terrace and a first-floor rooftop terrace.

The Large Canal House (Großes Grachtenhaus): Completely renovated at the end of 2022. It spans three floors and accommodates 4–6 guests. Features include 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a dedicated yoga room, a spacious living and dining area, and an outdoor terrace.
The Small Canal House (Kleines Grachtenhaus): Recently renovated and launched on the market in 2025. It offers generous sleeping arrangements for 4 guests across 2 floors with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area, and a first-floor balcony attached to one of the bedrooms.
Loft 1 & Loft 2: Built into a historic workshop in 2022 and completed in 2023. They offer a spacious loft-style atmosphere perfect for 2–3 guests.

The entire property features exceptionally high-quality interior and exterior design. To elevate your leisure activities, we provide 2 kayaks, 2 SUPs (stand-up paddleboards), and a large Canadian canoe completely free of charge during your stay to explore the canals of Friedrichstadt and the Treene River. A private boat dock for easy boarding is located right outside your door, and we also provide secure storage facilities for any bicycles you bring along.

Simmerdeis am Hafen (Husum)

If you love Husum, you will love “Simmerdeis am Hafen” – a private, secluded waterfront penthouse apartment located directly on the water. It offers unobstructed views of the inland harbor (Binnenhafen) and the historic old town, along with two balconies.

Perfectly equipped for 2–4 guests, it comes with its own private parking space. The penthouse is within short walking distance of restaurants, small boutiques, excellent city shopping, the marketplace, and the Husum Castle (which is always spectacular during the spring crocus blossom).
